joseph warren is an english graphic designer, typographer, and artist. his most recent series, the butterfly effect, combines "the shape of the butterfly - a fragile creature that represents the fragility of the natural world - with the texture of the printed map; a manifestation of man's absolute domination of the planet." warren was inspired by the discovery that cartographical textures are nearly identical to the patterns and textures of butterfly wings under extreme magnification. the butterflies are cut from vintage maps, and i love the way they are presented to mimic entomology display cases.
