sundance

handforged sterling hoops by melissa joy manning

years ago i opted out of receiving the deluge of catalogs that come around this time of year...because, well, it's a waste and i figure if i want something from these companies, i should pretty well be able to find it online or in an actual brick and mortar. my mom, however, receives that deluge still x10. my family and i visit my parents each sunday, and one of my guilty pleasures is going through the stacks and stacks of magazines and catalogs (she recycles, i forgive her). i forget from year to year that i actually have nice memories of doing this when young, beginning about now.

when i was very young, i would begin marking the pages of the sears wish book - atari games and science kits and such. as i moved into early adulthood, the sundance catalog became one of my favorites. and though my tastes have changed a bit in those 20ish years, what i like about sundance is that the company still holds true to its philosophy of featuring young artisans, and the proceeds of its sales continue to support the arts and the environment. and, hey, this season if you spend $150, you are automatically entered for a chance to win a trip for 2 to the 2009 sundance film fest! cool!
