sustainable not in the sense of reducing/reusing/recycling resources, but rather sustainable in the sense of restoring faith in the human spirit and creating new opportunities for increased self-worth and self-sufficiency and productivity and thereby improved livelihood, over generations. a professor of physics at oxford, josh silver determined more than 2 decades ago that he would venture to invent diy corrective lenses ~ no need for an optician, as the lenses are self-regulated. today nearly 30,000 pairs have been distributed to the poorest individuals in more than 15 countries. his goal now is to distribute 1 billion by the year 2020. please read more about the project here ~ how the lenses work (it's fascinating) and how silver intends to achieve his breathtaking goals. so inspired.
