Trend Web + voluta
one of my first posts, and no doubt an inspiration
to begin this blog, was on the works of mia pearlman.
i have followed mia's work for years, and am over the
moon (!) excited to be invited by her to the opening reception
and the events surrounding it this week for the
exhibition of maelstrom at the montgomery museum of fine arts.
maelstrom is a giant multilevel mobile, 12 feet in diameter with a 360-degree rotation. consisting of six circular layers of cut paper hanging from an aluminum armature, it hovers just above the heads of its viewers. wwirling cut-paper clouds evoke nature's duality both perfectly sublime and supremely destructive.
if you are anywhere near montgomery, alabama you
should most certainly attend the exhibition.

mia's current project is voluta, and she has permitted
me to share information and images. voluta is a limited edition
laser cut paper sculpture, signed and numbered by the artist.
