The share of coding Unicode (UTF-8) in Internet documents has come nearer to 50%. About it it is spoken in record in blog Google. For calculations the company which for a long time has passed on Unicode, used data of own search index.

Unicode — the leader!

Unicode for the first time has overtaken all other codings in May, 2008. Then share Unicode made about 25%, as well as a share ASCII — and West European codings. In 2001 the ASCII-coding share made about 55%.

The multibyte standard of coding of symbols Unicode allows to use symbols of thousand national alphabets and to present signs practically all written languages while usual codings are limited to support a maximum of several tens languages and several alphabets.
